Labor and Health Social Initiatives (LHSI) is international public organization that is aimed to unite efforts of partners from government and non-government sectors, scientists and businessmen for joint realization of social initiatives in labor and health sphere.
LHSI was established in August 2002, has got central office in Kyiv and implements projects of technical support in all regions of Ukraine.
Besides, LHSI cooperates with a wide range of specialists and experts on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other socially negative phenomena, implements models and approaches to adaptation and mobilization of socially not adapted groups of population. Also LHSI supports the development of social and medical services and promotes human rights policy in Ukraine.
The Steering Committee of LHSI consists of representatives of Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine, Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, Trade Union of Railway Workers and Transport Constructors of Ukraine.
To date, LHSI implements a number of large projects relating to:
- Prevention of socially dangerous illnesses in labor sphere
- Development of local intersectoral cooperation
- Improvement of social policy and quality of social services for graduates of boarding schools
- Prevention HIV/AIDS among injection drug users
- Prevention tuberculosis and improvement of its detection among groups of population with limited access to medical services because of geographical or social position.
- Establishing effective communication in fighting epidemic of tuberculosis in Ukraine in the framework of «Stop tuberculosis in Ukraine» program.
These activities of LHSI are financed by:
- Global fund fighting AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria (GFATM) (sub-recipient of 6, 9, 10 Rounds).

- World Health Organization
- International Renaissance Foundation
- The Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations of Netherlands (MATRA KAP Program)
Also LHSI has got experience of implementation of international projects of other countries donors (government and non-government organizations). Besides, the personnel of LHSI has a substantial experience in USAID, EU, UNDP projects administration and projects of bilateral donors.
LHSI is the only Ukrainian organization that has significant experience in developing and implementing HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis prevention programs in the workplace and in increasing potential of partner organizations it sphere of protection workers' rights. LHSI and its workers took active part in national policy making (CCM) and programing (GFATM, national programs) in areas of tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, child protection, have expertise and different experience in strategic planning on regional and local level on social burning issues.
